Environment Day I am pretty sure this one was the best yet! We had continued our last year's project - Paper Conservation - and I think would have made last year's Environment Day proud! We had amazing activities going on all day and I think everyone definitely had fun ! There were so many things to do that it was hard to get to do everything, but i personally immensely enjoyed face-painting thanks to Marlene and Alice who painted Nataly and me as butterflies, which is incredible. So thanks guys! I pretty sure than when Nataly and me got up to do our speech promoting our Paper Conservation Project we definitely got everyone's attention!!! I had a project going on with Nataly and Josi where we printed posters and posted around the school so people realize that water taps should be closed so to conserve water! We had them done in different languages and Nataly picked out great designs so the posters would really catch the eye. Hopefully people will take notice and act! It made me realize that I am also at fault and maybe I should have a poster put up in my own house too! Also we participated in Miss Connely's project;where we collected boxes to store paper in. At first it was hard to get people to actually bring the boxes but i think on Thursday there were so many that we didn't get to use them all. They were painted so now everytime your hand rises to throw out a piece of paper and you know it can be used again please put in the green boxes in the corners of our classrooms!!! The paper that doesn't get used in class, instead of being thrown out will go into these boxes and will get recycled. We are incredibly lucky because everyone knows how hard it is to recycle in Russia, which is why we were very fortunate to have the WWF speaker at our assembly. She told us that they support recycling and know where and how it gets done. Which is why we absolutely have no excuse for not RECYCLING! We collect the paper and the best part is that all we have to do is cross the road to the WWF office which literally 15 mins away from us and give it in!!! At the end of the day we had a great assembly and the slide show put on by the boys (Edward, Wasim, Daniel) which was extremely good and i think we all enjoyed it. Hopefully they will do it again. Nataly and me also had a little input, we gave a speech about conserving resources and hopefully we will save our environment as well as paper and cups - I think the important part was that when we mentioned the numbers and the figures of paper and plastic wasted each week by our school people were shocked! Hopefully into action!
