Hello! Now that we are back from Istra and facing the upcoming exams, I think we all will remember the last week as incredibly enjoyable! Although we had plenty of work to occupy us, as Mr.Scrauwston said "This have been a week you will remember for the rest of your life." I am sure I will! I have enjoyed every day there and the splendid nature which surrounds the Istra reservoir is definitely something worth remembering. In terms of CAS, i think it is possible to argue that creating a GPS map which involved going through the entire area of the hotel (which is quite large) was Action. It took a lot of time to figure out how the GPS actually worked but in the end we were determined to figure it out (after all there were prizes) and we did! Teamwork was crucial as well since whilst someone is drawing a map, someone else must keep their eyes open for possible 'flags', which our teachers had placed over the territory. My group, Maria, Ernst and San Jun were able to locate 2 flags! The last flag found was exceptionally emotional since Maria (who found it) was absolutely not ready to slide down an unexpected hill to get it! As they say in movies, "Memories are made of this!" Our coursework experiments took up a lot of our time and it was especially fun doing them; I particularly enjoyed water experiments which I based my investigation on. I have gained loads of skills; measuring various abiotic components in the water without falling in proved a challenge but I have managed. Nearly :) Recording data and actually understanding the data proved difficult at times but in the end I got it and now I can calculate Simpson's biodiversity index! The lake provided not only an excellent study area but also a place which takes you away with its beauty! Working in such an environment was definitely only enjoyable! There were also plenty of fish in the lake but I tried my best not to disturb them when I was measuring the depth of the water. Apparently, the fish populations of the Istra reservoir are going down as it is so extra disturbance was certainly unnecessary. I would like to thank Mr. Scrauwston and all the teachers for organizing such a wonderful trip and opportunity for us; hopefully he will remember us as much as we will remember him. Hope that the next year 12 will have as much fun as we had this year!
