Hello everyone!
I would like to share my recollections on the events we had so far! September 1st was both an exciting and knowledgeable day. The program we had consisted out of a general assembly then a more private one including only years 12 to 13 where we were first briefly familiarized with the IB program and its central part CAS.
To collaborate or as Mr. Parker would say break the ice we first began with several amusing activities such as juggling, playing basketball, creating a shelter and writing a little BISM jingle. Each was truly unique in its own way and refreshing as well as fulfilling when you finally get the ball through the hoop. From a considerable distance, of course. This day will be well remembered, I think, particularly because of the way we were organized into 4 groups which allowed mixing between the year 12 and 13 students and become one whole team. However i have to remark that my team number 2 came in second, which knowing the competition we had was quite fulfilling!
In the second half of the day we had a meeting on CAS- what it actually is, why it exists in the IB and how it actually works! That was extremely well explained and I think pretty much everyone got at least an idea of what CAS is by the end of the day.
The first week back at school was to a certain extent overwhelming especially with making the final choices for our subjects and easing into the school regime. Now as it is Friday and there are weekends ahead I hope everyone will have to time to relax and come back to school revitalized and cheerful!
Today needs special attention as well since we all just got back from our Environmental Project where our main theme was RE-CYCLING! In the morning as we trotted down to Bitsevsky Park and entered its territory the first few pieces of litter had lead us to believe that maybe that was the extent our finding would go to and we would return almost empty-handed. However we were wrong!
We returned with about ten full and quite heavy - I might add as one of those people who only temporarily was involved in the process of carrying- bags. Our, let's say 5 kilometer track, was full of opportunities to help our community by picking up everything from little metal caps of bottles to a metal trolley. Which was carried all the way by the male half of our class so let’s admire their efforts! We should also thank Mr. Parker, Mr. Scrouwston and Mr. Turnbull for helping, organizing and leading us!
After sorting through our “findings” we were left with 9 bags of recyclable waste and only 1 unfit for such purposes. So I think that is quite a good ratio for a 2 and half hour work that we have conducted.
Today was wonderful experience and i think not only educationaly , knowledge wise, but in terms of us being closer to the ideal human since if we continue to recieve and take what we do from our planet, we have to give back to it at least a little bit of ourselves in a way of giving thanks. Because as Samuel Johnson said " The future is purchased by the present."
So lastly this brings me to our sacred "Hexagon" and the IB profile because i think starting from today such traits as observing, inquiring , helping and most of all trying have began to evolve in each of us.
Special Thank You to All Who Participated Today
